About the Annual Kinzer Jazz Festival
The late Dr. Thomas Kinser founded the The Casper College Kinser Jazz Festival to promote jazz education and foster and celebrate greater cultural awareness and diversity within the community. He promoted jazz as a standard component of music study in Wyoming.
In 1967, the festival hosted three ensembles. Today, it accommodates more than 50 ensembles from regional junior high schools, middle schools, and high schools. Renowned jazz adjudicators listen and evaluate each student ensemble and workshop, and performances are offered to expose the students to even more quality jazz.
To top it all off, the evening concert featuring some of the finest artists in the jazz industry culminates the two-day event. Take 6 headlines this year’s event.
In past years, the festival featured jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, Betty Carter, the Count Basie Orchestra, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Ellis Marsalis, Clark Terry and others.
Casper College is an institutional member of the International Association of Jazz Educators and the National Association of Schools of Music.
