FUSHION leads World AIDS Day activities
The Casper-Natrona County Health Department will be collaborating with the Casper-College Student Group “FUSION” to conduct World AIDS Day activities on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Events will be held in the Robert’s Commons Ballroom on the campus of Casper College from 9 a.m. until p.m.
Health Department staff and trained volunteers will be on hand from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 4 p.m. to provide free and confidential Rapid HIV Testing. Jerry Clemens, coordinator for the Real AIDS Prevention Project (RAPP), said this is a simple process and in 15 minutes the results are available.
From 11 a.m. to noon, a short lecture providing an overview of HIV will be held with a panel discussion featuring two individuals living with HIV.
World AIDS Day was begun in 1988 to focus international attention on HIV/AIDS. Events have been held in Casper in the past but this is the fourth year that multiple agencies have collaborated to bring attention to HIV/AIDS.
Other events slated for Dec. 1 include free Rapid HIV Testing at Casper-Natrona County Health Department, 475 S. Spruce St. (8-11 a.m. and 1-5 p.m.); and a memorial service at the United Church of Christ (UCC), 15th and Melrose, at 7 p.m., including a non-denominational service and candlelight vigil.
