Contact candidates, parties before Election Day

by Carol Crump

Still on the fence, trying to make up your mind who to support in the November elections?

There are ways to contact the candidates directly. The major parties and some national candidates have offices in Casper and Web sites.

The candidates for state and local offices are reachable by telephone or online.

The secretary of state's Web site, http://soswy.state.wy.us, lists all of the candidates who will appear on the ballot on Nov. 4.

Through the General Election Candidates link, Wyoming candidates, with the exception of those running for U.S. president and vice president, are listed by office sought, with a mailing and e-mail address and telephone number included for each candidate.

The Wyoming League of Women Voters is a source for General Election information, such as registering to vote, getting involved in your community and navigating Election Day. For more information, visit www.vote411.org.

Wyoming's Republican and Democratic parties have offices in Casper.

The Libertarian Party has a Web site, www.wyolp.org, but no local office. The Natrona County contact is Dave Dawson, 237-4648.

The GOP's office, which supports all of the Republican candidates for national, state and local offices, is at 400 E. First St., 234-9166. The Web site is www.natronagop.com.

The Democrats' headquarters is at 254 N. Center, 473-1457. Their Web site is www.wyomingdemocrats.com.

The Democrats also have opened a Barack Obama for President campaign office at 114 W. Second St., 258-4527.

Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives Gary Trauner has a Casper office at 144 E. Midwest Ave., 472-4279, www.traunerforcongress.com.

The Casper Chapter of the League of Women Voters also holds candidate forums that are open to the public.

This year, the league will conduct two candidate forums prior to Election Day. The forums will feature candidates for the Natrona County Commission and the Natrona County School District Board of Trustees.

The first forum, for the Natrona County School Board candidates, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in Casper City Hall, 100 N. David St.

There are 10 candidates for five four-year positions and two candidates for one two-year position.

The second forum, for Natrona County Commission candidates, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at Casper City Hall, 100 N. David St.

There are four candidates vying for two open County Commission seats in the partisan race.

Both forums will be broadcast live on Bresnan Cable public access channel 3.
