Disc golfers prepare for Ace Race

Registration now is open for the annual Ace Race disc golf competition, which will take place on Sept. 20. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 31.

Disc golfers will try to make as many aces, or hole-in-ones. as they can in 36 holes. The entry fee is $25 and includes two identical Discraft discs, plus a SuperColor mini and a Discraft hat, a $55 value.

Discraft puts on the tournament in locations all over the world. The disc company awards a prize to the town with the largest participant increase over the previous year.

The Ace Race is open to all ages and skill levels, according to Casper Disc Golf Club organizer Stacey Masters.

The CDGC is seeking new members and welcomes anyone interested. Their goal is to arrange more competitions, and eventually host a yearly professional tournament.

Besides the Ace Race, the club plays the Sheet of Ice Bowl each February to raise money for a local food bank. Because it is for a good cause, Masters said, they play weather it is snowing, raining or sunny.

The disc golf course is located behind the North Casper Soccer Fields, and is the longest in Wyoming. The Frisbee-like discs are the only equipment required. The game is played with rules similar to golf, with baskets instead of holes.
