Constance Doll of Casper has been named the recipient of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s 2008 Robert Ross Personal Achievement Award for Wyoming.

Doll, 58, was selected for the honor because of her positive spirit and community involvement.

Doll strives to share her positive perspective with everyone she encounters and to help others whenever she can. She volunteers her time at numerous community locales and events, including the Nicolaysen Art museum and a support group for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

“I’m proud to announce Constance Doll as Wyoming's Robert Ross MDA Personal Achievement Award recipient for 2008,” said MDA President & CEO Gerald C. Weinberg. "Connie is a great example of the contributions people with disabilities consistently make to their communities.”

Doll makes time to support MDA, participating in fundraisers and events, including the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, Lock-Ups and Fill-the-Boot campaigns.

Doll has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a neuromuscular disease that causes damage to the peripheral nerves. Symptoms include muscle weakness and wasting, loss of sensation in the extremities, curvature of the spine and stiffened joints. She uses braces to maintain her mobility.

Doll was chosen for the achievement award by MDA’s Rocky Mountain/Wyoming Chapter and then was named Wyoming's award recipient.

One state award recipient will be selected to receive MDA’s national award, the 2009 Robert Ross Personal Achievement Award. The national honoree will be announced on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 1.
