Students on Dean’s List

Four students from Casper were named to the 2008 winter quarter Dean's List at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

Those listed are: Briana Flanagan, Crystal Loranc and Michael Loran, all Kelly Walsh High School graduates, and Robert Jindrick, a grad of Natrona County High School.

An undergraduate student who earns 12 hours and receives a GPA of 3.5 or better is placed on the Dean's List for the quarter.

NCSD recruitment fair relocated

Due to a scheduling conflict, the Natrona County School District's 2008 teacher recruitment fair has moved.

The event will be held at Centennial Junior High School on Saturday, April 12. Check-in and a continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m., and activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. A boxed lunch also will be available later in the day.

All applicants must have registered for the fair by April 1 to be guaranteed interview times and written assessments. Those who register after April 1 will be placed on a wait list and only will be allowed to participate in interviews if time and space allow.

Applicants must have a completed application on file with the district in order to participate. They also should bring 5-10 copies of their resume the day of the fair.

Wyoming Geographic Alliance Seeks Teachers for Summer Institute Program

The Wyoming Geographic Alliance (WGA) is seeking 15 teachers to participate in its 2008 Summer Geography Institute, June 20 to July 4.

The summer institute will include an intensive four-day workshop on the University of Wyoming campus followed by a five-day trip to Bolivia to work alongside teachers in the South American country.

Scholarships are available for the summer institute program that will reduce the cost to $600 per teacher. The fee includes airfare, lodging and six graduate credits.

The application deadline is Thursday, May 1. To apply, call 307-766-3213 or e-mail wga@uwyo.edu.

"The intent of this summer institute is to facilitate in-service teachers in integrating knowledge of geography with the process of student-active democracy at the community level," said William Gribb, an associate professor in UW's Department of Geography.

In Bolivia, Wyoming teachers will be split into five groups to train and work with teachers in the La Paz region of the country. Each group will have one Spanish teacher to assist in translations and lectures.

The summer institute is a cooperative program among the WGA, the Wyoming Department of Education, Civitas International and the UW colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education.
