Balefill accepting pesticides

Friday, May 30, 2008 9:10 AM MDT

The City of Casper’s Special Wastes Facility and Keep Casper Beautiful are hosting a free pesticides collection event for Natrona County residents.

Pesticides will be accepted at the Casper Regional Balefill on Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is partially funded by a grant from the Wyoming Department of Agriculture.

“Both the state and city are committed to preventing pesticide contamination of ground water and waters of our creeks and river,” said Cindie Langston, solid waste manager. “Proper use and proper disposal of pesticides are key to preventing water pollution.”

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a pesticide is any substance used to prevent, destroy, repel or mitigate pests such as insects, mice and other animals, weeds and fungi.

“As part of its effort to promote responsible waste handling, Keep Casper Beautiful is partnering with us on this project as part of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup,” Langston said.

More information on the pesticides collection event can be found at www.casperwy.gov or by calling 235-8246.
